So while many of us like to spend money on our trees and tools, bonsai pots can often be neglected.
One of the big things that I’ve found is that while you can get away with a sub-standard bonsai pot for a few months, these sub-standard pots can cause significant damage to your tree if they become damaged.
As such, Save yourself any future pain by investing in a quality pot.
My recommendation then for a bonsai pot would have to be bonsai boys black ceramic bonsai pot which you can grab here (the link takes you to bonsai boys website)
Why do I recommend this bonsai pot?
So one of the things I hate is when people recommend you specific products online without using or explaining why they recommend them.
As such, these are some of the key reasons why I recommend this pot:
Nontoxic
Firstly, this pot is made out of ceramic material.
This means that, unlike other plastic pots, this contains no harmful chemicals.
Over time, the chemicals in plastic pots can alter the pH of your bonsai soil.
If left unchecked, this can lead to a malnourished bonsai as your tree becomes less efficient at absorbing minerals.
Non-stick
One of the most complex parts of keeping a bonsai tree is simply repotting your tree.
As such, having a pot that does not pool the soil together will be essential.
Thankfully this ceramic pot is non-stick, meaning it is much easier to repot trees in it.
Lightweight and shallow
For best results, bonsai pots need to be shallow.
This is so the water does not pool in the pot, as well as to prevent the roots of your tree from becoming too big.
Luckily, this bonsai pot is only 2 inches deep, making it ideal for small to medium-sized bonsai trees.
On top of this, this pot is incredibly lightweight.
This means it can easily be moved around your house, making it ideal for indoor and outdoor bonsai.
Best premium pot
Now if you want to take your bonsai pot to the next level and invest in a premium piece, I would have to recommend bonsai boys round mica bonsai pot (the link takes you to bonsai boys website)
I recommend this pot for a few reasons:
Beautiful design
First, finding a good-looking bonsai pot is challenging.
It’s common for most bonsai tree pots to look like standard pots.
Not the case with this Mica pot which has a beautiful age looks with embossing around the side of the pot, making it ideal for almost any bonsai tree.
Made of mica
This bonsai tree pot’s most significant selling point is that it is made of mica.
Mica pots can stabilize the soil temperature inside the pot, which can help balance out the PH levels in the tree.
Mica pots also help keep your tree’s soil warm during cold periods, so they are worth investing in if you live in a colder environment.
Virtually indestructible
Now other bonsai pots can be easy to break due to the materials they are made of.
That is not the case with this mica pot.
This pot also contains graphite and polythene, making this pot incredible touch and long-lasting.
I recommend this pot for outdoor bonsai trees.
What to look out for when buying a bonsai pot
So regardless of purchasing my recommendation for a bonsai pot or not, I’ve made many mistakes throughout my bonsai career.
As such, any toolset you decide to opt for must have the following:
- Strong materials– You want to ensure that regardless of any bonsai pot you buy, it is made from solid materials that will not break after 12 months.
- From a professional retailer – It can be very tempting to buy a bonsai pot from a cheap store; however, using reputable retailers will ensure peace of mind and not worry about the tree dying right after you purchase it.
- Not the cheapest option – Similar to the above, you may want to purchase the cheapest bonsai pots available. While this will be your choice, depending on your available budget, consider investing in pots more as investment pieces.
- Money-back guarantee – Ensure that whatever bonsai pot you purchase has a money-back guarantee to give you peace of mind.
