Best bonsai Fertilizer? My top picks

What are the best bonsai Fertilizers? Without a doubt, one of the most common activities you will need to undertake in your bonsai tree will be fertilizing your tree – especially during the spring and summer.

That said, I’ve often purchased poor-quality bonsai fertilizer that either burns or damages my bonsai.

Having tested a few of these out then in the past year, I can confidently say that my recommendation for the best bonsai fertilizer has to be Green 24’s Bonsai fertilizer (link takes you to Amazon).

Why do I recommend this bonsai fertilizer?

So one of the things I hate is when people recommend you specific products online without using or explaining why they recommend them.

As such, these are some of the key reasons why I recommend this tool set:

Even N-P-K Ratio

One of the most important aspects of bonsai fertilizer is its even NPK ratio.

An NPK ratio represents the fertilizer’s nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium levels.

Most good fertilizers for bonsai trees will have a balanced NPK ratio, meaning equal parts of all three elements.

Multiple trees

As you likely already know, bonsai trees are not a type of tree but a collection of multiple trees.

As such, it can be challenging to find a fertilizer that will work for multiple bonsai tree species, such as juniper and elms.

Not the case with this fertilizer which has vital nutrient combinations for over 100 different plant species.

Ready to use

Another problem with fertilizers is that they can be messy.

Usually, you have to mix these with water, and they take a bit of time to use.

This isn’t true of this fertilizer which is a liquid fertilizer and ready to use

Money back guarantee

Finally, this fertilizer has a money-back guarantee.

That means you can return the product if you are unhappy with it.

This will give you peace of mind especially compared to other online providers that could be more sketchy about offering returns!

What to look out for when buying a bonsai fertilizer

So regardless of purchasing my recommendation for a bonsai fertilizer or not, I’ve made many mistakes throughout my bonsai career.

As such, any toolset you decide to opt for must have the following:

  • Strong materials– You want to ensure that regardless of any bonsai fertilizer you buy, it is made from solid materials that will not burn or scar your tree. Aim to use balanced fertilizers for the best approach.
  •  From a professional retailer – It can be very tempting to buy a bonsai set from a cheap store; however, using reputable retailers will ensure peace of mind, not worrying about the tree dying right after you purchase it.
  • Not the cheapest option – As mentioned above, you may want to purchase the cheapest bonsai fertilizer available. While this will be your choice, depending on your available budget, consider investing slightly more as, in my experience, premium bonsai fertilizer will typically be much longer lasting and better quality than cheaper sets.
  • Money-back guarantee – Ensure that whatever bonsai set you purchase has a money-back guarantee to give you peace of mind.
